Delhi Govt Forms Task Force For Women's Safety In Public Transport | Delhi News
NEW DELHI: Delhi government’s think tank 'Dialogue and Development Commission', which advises the government on key policy issues, has constituted a task force to ensure safety and to improve the quality of commuting for women travelers in public transport in the national capital.
“The task force will conduct both on and off ground reviewing and monitoring of all existing schemes for women’s safety in Delhi, and propose new plans for strengthening it in the capital,” said the think tank’s vice chairman Jasmine Shah.
The task force has been entrusted with the task of evaluating and monitoring of various initiatives taken by the AAP government in the direction of women's safety, including the installation of CCTV cameras and panic buttons in buses and the bus marshal scheme which has been in place in all government-run DTC buses since 2015.
It will comprise of representatives from all stakeholders of public transport as well as eminent experts from civil society working in the fields of women’s safety and in public transport in the national capital. It would also include two daily female commuters nominated by the transport minister. The members of the task force will be appointed for a period of one year, or until the tenure of the present government. The task force will have representatives from the DDC, concerned government departments, Delhi Commission for Women, Delhi Police and few NGOs.
One of the key mandates of this task force is to recommend and monitor the implementation of all initiatives undertaken by the transport department for women's safety. It will also assess and recommend improvements in the effectiveness of bus marshalls programme.
Gender sensitization of drivers, conductors, measures like installation of panic buttons and CCTV cameras in buses along with other important women safety measures will be part of the mandate of this task force.
