1,000 E-scooters At 100 Locations: Ndmc To Set The Ball Rolling | Delhi News
NEW DELHI: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will place a proposal for implementation, operation and maintenance of 1,000 e-scooters at 100 locations at the council meeting on Thursday for final approval.
It will be implemented on the public-private partnership basis. The civic agency has already finalised the model for e-scooters and the concessionaire supplying, installing and maintaining them. After the council’s approval, it will take less than six months for its implementation.
“The concessionaire has already implemented the concept on a pilot basis in Bangalore at a small scale. The concept has been appreciated by locals and on the basis of the review, we finalised the company. The red e-scooters will run for 100km. After a full charge, they can travel at an average speed of 45kmph, said an NDMC official.
The much-awaited project, being introduced a year after smart bikes were made available on rent, seeks to reduce pollution by providing last mile connectivity to commuters. “We expect good feedback from public and will initiate an online feedback system soon after introducing the project. Unlike smart bikes, people can use it for a longer distance,” said the NDMC spokesperson.
It will be implemented in two phases, an official said.
In the first phase, 500 e-scooters will be procured and provided on rent at 50 stations, while the remaining 500 will be made available in the next phase.
“Though it won’t take time to order e-scooters, the contractor will need to construct the platforms and arrange for installing infrastructural facilities,” said the official, adding that they can be hired for minimum 15 minutes for less than Rs 10. The per-minute charge will be 50 paisa, which will increase to 62 paisa after two hours. “The idea is to ensure that maximum number of people get to use the facility,” said the official. Two locations will be provided to the contractor to charge batteries. To use the facility, people will have to register on the civic body’s app, NDMC-311.
